4 COMMON INGREDIENTS PEOPLE WITH ECZEMA SHOULD AVOID

Our team at BODILAB, suffer from dry and sensitive skin types along with skin conditions, such as eczema. Individually we struggled to find the right products that provided the important balance of hydration and nourishment to our skin. Therefore, we wanted to develop products that were great for everyone and that included us too! We also want to share our struggles with our own skin health and how we navigated through the numerous options available within the skincare industry. Knowing your skin and understanding the ingredients you choose to use is vital in achieving optimum skin health.

If you have eczema, then you probably know that certain ingredients in cosmetic and skincare products can irritate your skin. As eczema prone skin has an impaired skin barrier, it can be more sensitive to ingredients that can be irritating or drying. When looking at your skincare products, carefully read the labels to help identify and avoid irritating ingredients. Monitor your experiences (as everyone’s not the same) in order to determine an effective skincare routine for you.

Here are a few common ingredients those with eczema should limit or eliminate from their routine:

Sulphates

Sulphates are a surfactant (cleaning agent) found in soaps, shampoos, laundry detergents and more. Sulphates can cause skin to become dry, itchy and irritated. Essentially, they clean skin so well by stripping them of natural moisture and oils. As awareness about the effects of this ingredients increases, many people suffering from eczema are turning back to using bar soaps instead of liquid soaps for cleansing. Our Body & Facial Cleansing Bars contain no harsh chemicals and are full of wholesome plant-based ingredients to naturally cleanse, without stripping natural oils and provide much needed nourishment to the skin.

Preservatives

Preservatives are used to keep cosmetics fresh and prevent them from growing bacteria. But chemical preservatives are irritating to sensitive skin, especially for those dealing with eczema. Unfortunately, there is still a need to preserve certain skincare products, just like our Rose Water Spritz, we have formulated this uplifting and nourishing product with a natural preservative. We encourage those who suffer from sensitive skin to choose products that use plant-based preservatives to reduce chances of irritation to the skin occurring.

Fragrances

Fragrance can be seriously harsh, and irritate already sensitive skin. Fragrances and perfumes are typically comprised of dozens (sometimes hundreds) of synthetic chemical compounds. BODILAB never uses artificial fragrance. Any aroma noticed in our products comes from the natural ingredients; plants and oils with which they’re made. We must note that, although it is natural, some people may experience irritation from Essential Oils.

Synthetic Dyes

Artificial dyes add appealing colour to many skincare products, but they can trigger a reaction or worsen the symptoms in those with eczema prone or sensitive skin. We only use natural oils, minerals and extracts to provide colour to our products and never any synthetic ingredients.

Natural & organic skincare is often the go-to regimen for sufferers of skin conditions such as eczema. As with any skincare, you need to ensure the products contain the best ingredients to feed your skin and complexion's needs. If you’re searching for skincare that will be kind to your skin in any condition, look no further, our natural & vegan skincare range it just for you.
